My stay at Royal Hotel Shinokubo was quite an experience. The room was exceptionally large, providing plenty of space for my luggage, though I faced some issues with the toilet and WiFi. The hotel’s location was fantastic, making it easy to explore Tokyo, yet the alleyway leading to the hotel felt a bit daunting at night.

Rooms

The Twin Room was spacious and had a large bathroom, but the toilet was not fixed securely to the floor, which was uncomfortable. Additionally, the room lacked bedside lamps, making it inconvenient to read in bed.
Service
8.0
I appreciated the good customer service. the staff members were helpful, especially when I needed assistance with my door. However, returning the key every time I left the hotel was a bit annoying.
Location
8.0
The hotel is located near two central train stations, allowing easy travel around the city. although the dark alley leading to the entrance felt a little intimidating at times.
Dining

I found great dining options nearby, including a 24-hour Don Quijote just downstairs, perfect for snacking late at night.
Facilities
7.0
The hotel provided necessary amenities, including free luggage storage and decent housekeeping, but the laundry facilities could use better regulation.

5.2/10

My stay at Royal Hotel Shinokubo was a mixed bag. I appreciated the spacious room and comfort despite some dated elements like peeling wallpaper and minor issues with plumbing. The location was quite convenient, just a few subway stops from the city center, but the area felt a bit sketchy at night.

Rooms
8.0
I stayed in a non-smoking double room that offered good size and storage, plus it was clean and bright thanks to huge windows. However, I noticed some rust in the bath and a leaky sink, but I found it overall comfortable and a good value for money.
Service
8.0
The staff were quite helpful, assisting with my luggage and providing water and umbrellas at the reception. Their friendly demeanor made my stay more pleasant.
Location
6.0
The hotel is located between two train stations, making it easy to get around. However, the alleyway leading to the hotel felt a bit dark and intimidating at night.
Dining

There were plenty of food options around, mostly international cuisines rather than authentic Japanese food. This was a bit of a letdown as I was hoping for more local flavors.
Facilities
7.0
The hotel offers useful amenities like a washing machine and dryer for guest use, which I found convenient. The housekeeping was satisfactory, but I did notice some maintenance issues.

I had a mixed experience at Royal Hotel Shinokubo. The location was fantastic with plenty of food options nearby, but I struggled with the lack of an elevator and the dated feel of the hotel.

Rooms

My twin room was spacious, which is a bonus for Japan, but I found the furnishings a bit old-fashioned. The bed wasn't super comfortable for me, but it was okay for my husband.
Service
6.0
The reception staff were polite and efficient, though I didn't find them particularly warm. They kindly stored my bags before check-in and after check-out.
Location

The hotel's location was a highlight for me. It's close to two train stations, making it easy to get around the city. However, getting to the nearest metro was a bit of a walk, around 10-15 minutes.
Dining
6.0
There were lots of food options around, especially Asian cuisines, but I was hoping for more authentic Japanese food options.
Facilities

The hotel offered basic amenities, but the lack of an elevator made hauling my bags up the stairs a challenge after a long day of exploring. The shower in my room was quite good though.

I had a mixed experience during my three-night stay at Royal Hotel Shinokubo. While the location was excellent with easy access to two train stations and a variety of food options, I found the comfort levels lacking with the bed and pillows. The hotel was clean but showed signs of wear and tear, which made my overall stay feel less luxurious.

Rooms
5.0
My room was clean, but it felt a bit run down. The mattress was old and uncomfortable, and I struggled with the musty smell of the towels.
Service
6.0
The staff were friendly and accommodating, allowing me to store my luggage before check-in and after check-out, which was great.
Location
10.0
I loved the location, nestled in an alleyway but still very accessible being between two metro stops. It was easy to explore the Shinjuku area without being in the thick of the craziness.
Dining
6.0
There were so many food options nearby, though they leaned more towards Vietnamese, Korean, and Chinese cuisine rather than traditional Japanese fare.
Facilities
6.0
The hotel had basic amenities like housekeeping and laundry, which were useful. Each floor had a microwave, and I appreciated the fridge in my room.

I had a pleasant stay at the Royal Hotel Shinokubo, enjoying its quirky charm and fantastic location. My room was spacious, and the huge bathroom was a highlight. However, I did find the lack of an elevator a bit inconvenient, especially when hauling my luggage up the stairs.

Rooms

The triple room I stayed in was quite large with unique original decor, including chandeliers and elegant wall panels. The bathroom was spacious, with a separate toilet and shower area, which made my stay very comfortable.
Service
7.0
While most of the staff were friendly and helpful, I did notice some inconsistencies in service. One doorman was exceptionally attentive, while another was a bit less proactive. Overall, the staff did their best to accommodate my needs.
Location

The hotel's location is unbeatable, situated just a three-minute walk from two train stations. This made it incredibly convenient to explore the city, with plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops nearby.
Dining
8.0
While I didn't dine in the hotel, there was a good selection of restaurants within easy walking distance, including a Yoshinoya and a 24-hour Don Quijote just around the corner. I appreciated having such options nearby.
Facilities
6.0
The hotel offered basic facilities like housekeeping and laundry services. However, I found the laundry situation a bit chaotic, as there weren't regulations regarding finished laundry being left unattended.
